Identify Emotionally Attuned Candidates With the Social Context Reasoning Test

Reveal how well candidates read interpersonal cues, interpret social dynamics, and adapt to nuanced workplace situations.

Understanding the Social Context

The Social Context Reasoning Test measures how effectively a person perceives and interprets social cues in everyday and workplace settings. It captures a candidate’s ability to “read between the lines,” sense conflict or tension, and understand how relationships and group dynamics influence outcomes.

This test is part of the FinxS Cognitive Ability suite and is particularly useful for assessing emotional and social intelligence in a reliable, structured way.

What Does This Test Measure?

  • Awareness of interpersonal cues and social patterns
  • Ability to interpret evolving social situations
  • Sensitivity to non-verbal dynamics and group behaviour
  • Capability to anticipate reactions and adapt interactions accordingly

High scorers typically demonstrate emotional intelligence, discretion, and sound judgement when navigating complex people scenarios — valuable traits in roles requiring diplomacy, leadership, or client-facing work.

When to Use This Test

This test is ideal for roles where social awareness and interpersonal adaptability are key to success, such as:

  • Human Resources and people leadership
  • Sales, public relations, and customer engagement
  • Mediation, coaching, and counselling
  • Team-based and client-facing environments
  • Situations involving negotiation, persuasion, or discretion

It also supports development pathways by identifying strengths and areas for growth in social intelligence.

How the Test Works

Candidates are shown 20 sets of four images, each representing a social interaction. The images appear in random order, and the candidate’s task is to rearrange them into a sequence that forms a clear, logical story. This requires interpreting emotional cues, understanding relationships, and anticipating how situations unfold.

A practice question is provided at the start to familiarise candidates with the task. The test is timed at 11 minutes, with increasing difficulty as it progresses.

After completion, an instant report shows:

  • Total score and percentage of correct answers

  • Time taken per item

  • Speed vs accuracy breakdown

  • Optional benchmark comparisons for added insight

This setup reveals how well a candidate understands social dynamics and processes complex interpersonal information under pressure.
